DESCRIPTION

Wild harvested from the pristine waters of the Pacific Ocean off Tasmania's east coast, Power Super Foods raw organic premium grade Wakame Leaf (Undaria pinnatifida) is a mineral dense brown seaweed rich in nutrients and flavour enhancing umami.

As a result of the low temperature drying, you might see white powder on the leaves. This is mannitol, a naturally occurring substance and the source of the delicious sweet salty umami flavour that gives depth of flavour to this wild sea vegetable.

Good for you, good for the planet
When consumed as part of a healthy diet including the consumption of a variety of foods, Wakame Leaf provides an excellent source of iodine. Our wakame is wild grown and sustainably hand harvested fresh from the uncontaminated waters of Tasmania, then gently sun dried. These practices ensure minimal environmental impact and promote the sustainable supply of quality sea vegetables.

Seaweed does not require fresh water, soil or fertiliser to grow. It is fast growing, produces the majority of the earth's oxygen, removes CO2, and supports coastal communities.

QUALITY

Dried not fried, our wakame leaf are raw and wild. Hand harvested from the pristine waters of Eastern Tasmania, they are then gently dried at low temperatures to retain nutrients. Tested for microbes, heavy metals and other contaminants, our seaweeds also pass a series of rigid third party protocols to be classified as Australian certified organic. Our seaweeds grow in remote seas away from cities and associated pollution and are hand harvested sustainably and responsibly by experienced foragers.

The white powder you can occasionally see on the leaves is not mould but natural sea salt precipitate and dried glutamine left behind after drying, which adds to the tastiness of this delicious sea vegetable. This umami powder brings flavour and subtle sweetness that can be brushed off or left on for additional flavour. Due to their wild origins and minimal processing, seaweeds are also subject to dry sea organisms left behind on the leaves, which can also be ignored or gently brushed off.
